New Costa Rica Burlap Beach Tote!

Costa Rica burlap beach bag - tote handmade by Lina and Vi in Plymouth MI - shop www.linaandvi.etsy.com

Hello friends! We have another burlap bag available in our Grounds collection this week - the Costa Rica Beach Bag! This repurposed burlap coffee sack is the first we have used of its kind. Additionally, this is our first design using lacquered bamboo handles. It's a great bag for a stroll on the boardwalk or beach this summer.

Here are a few more detailed photos of the Costa Rica beach tote, which is also available now in our Etsy shop for purchase

You'll notice that this bag is a square shape, featuring side and bottom panels made from the same burlap sack. Typically, our designs are one front and back panel with bottom accent, but we wanted a structured look to this bag to offset the curves of the handles.

The interior lining is a cotton white, orange, and yellow printed fabric. It is actually a large bird motif, however we wanted to focus on the colors and the magnified shapes over showcasing the print. It's a vibrant interior with two pockets, one large slide pocket and one zipper pocket inside the lining itself. It is like a sunrise every time we peek inside this burlap bag!

Overall, this bag is one of my top beach designs, especially when we are looking for something special for an upcoming vacation or trip or even a honeymoon for all of those summer newlyweds.

You can find the Costa Rica Burlap Beach tote and other handmade, repurposed burlap bags in our Etsy shop today.

Cheers to a good rest of the week!

Marching Onward

Lina and Vi burlap crossbody bad - handmade in plymouth michigan - www.etsy.com/linaandvi

Hello everyone! Here we are nearing the end of July, and I can't decide if this month has flown by or dragged on. This is one of the slower months of the year where the weather is hot and the days feel everlasting.

Despite my quietness here on the blog, I've been working away day by day on Lina and Vi, sewing, designing, and tweaking things a little each day to see what works and what doesn't. Last week, we held a giveaway on our Facebook page which was fun to put together. We don't offer giveaways very often - this was maybe our third and it felt good to award the winner, Suzanne, a local Michigan resident. She definitely has some happy mail coming her way this weekend!

Running a small, handmade business is a lot more work than most people realize. Often times, it is one person behind the scenes juggling the making, customer service, selling, advertising, shipping, sourcing, and marketing. There is a lot that I've learned along the way and so much more that I don't even know. It's all still fascinating to me, and that is what keeps my wheels turning every day, thinking about what I could improve.

I wrapped up a new cross-body burlap zipper bag this week that is coming to our Etsy shop tomorrow.  Inspired by the casual, hands-free bags of summer, this new burlap purse is a functional statement piece. I don't have any behind the scenes photos to share on this one, but there will be more detailed photos coming up on the blog in the next few days.

I hope you're spending your July in a memorable and meaningful way. As always, thank you for the continued support of Lina and Vi!

Kona Coffee Burlap Tote Bag

Kona Burlap Coffee Tote Bag by Lina and Vi, Plymouth MI - handmade, repurposed

The Kona Coffee tote bag is now available in our Etsy shop! Earlier this week, I shared a few behind the scenes photos of this bag. This was a fun burlap tote to make, and it was my first bag using a kona coffee bean burlap sack.

This burlap tote is a medium-sized bag that can be carried by hand or by shoulder using the wide straps, also handmade from the same repurposed kona coffee bean sack. The bottom of the bag features a chocolate brown cotton fabric along with the inside. On the bag's interior, I choose a contrasting patterned white and brown woven fabric for a bit of fun and interest.

Shop this bag and more now in our handmade burlap tote shop on Etsy!

In Progress: Kona Coffee Burlap Tote Bag

Kona Coffee Burlap Tote Bag - In Progress - Exterior - Lina and Vi Plymouth MI

It's been a busy few weeks over here! My husband and I celebrated Fourth of July weekend with my family and then headed to his family's cottage this past weekend which was both relaxing and beautiful.  Michigan in the summer is one of the best seasons in my opinion!

Now that I'm back into the swing of things, I have been busy finishing a new burlap tote bag that I started a few weeks prior using repurposed Kona Coffee burlap sacks from Hawaii. There is a fun forest green and black graphic print that is showcased on the exterior. I opted for a simple color scheme, using a solid brown cotton for the bottom and lining, accented by a brown and white patterned woven fabric on the interior bottom for a little bit of funkiness. I guess you can consider it something like business on the outside, party on the inside. :-)

I handmade the straps this time around using extra burlap and brown cotton fabric (not shown). Everything on this bag has been reinforced with fusible stabilizer, double sewn seams, and heavy duty thread.
